Appalachian Trail Conservancy : Hike the trail, trail stories, news, member center, Appalachian Trail essential facts.
Appalachian Trail : Trail passes through Troutdale VA and across the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area providing scenic high country views and great hiking. Open to foot traffic only.

Beaver Dam Trail : This is a walking trail with spectacular outdoor nature scenery within the Town of Hillsville VA and is part of the statewide Birding and Wildlife Trail system. Open every day from sun up to sun down.

Blue Ridge Parkway : Outstanding scenery and recreational opportunities make the Blue Ridge Parkway, also known as "America's Favorite Drive", one of the most popular units of the National Park System.

Carter Pines Community Park : The park is within the Town of Hillsville VA and is owned and administered by Carroll County. Largest town park in SW Virginia, it contains one of the first and last surviving white pine plantings in the state. Trail system soon to be built.

Crooked Creek WMA Birding & Wildlife Trail : Located on Rt. 620 in Carroll County VA, near Woodlawn, this trail system is part of the statewide Birding and Wildlife Trail system. There are no formal trails within this area. Open to foot traffic only.

Devil's Den Nature Preserve : This unique 300 acre private nature preserve is located just off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Fancy Gap VA. It is part of the statewide Birding and Wildlife Trail system. Trails cross the tract. Open sunrise to sunset May through October. Foot traffic only.

Felts Park : 601 S. Main St.  Galax VA - 28 acre park, 5 tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, 6/10 mile paved walking trail, covered picnic area, playground, outdoor 25 meter pool, 2 multi-use baseball, softball, soccer fields, and 2 outdoor sand volleyball courts.  

Grayson Highlands State Park : Some of the most scenic trails in the area are located in the Grayson Highlands State Park. Many hikers access the Appalachian Trail from the parking area at Massie Gap. There are trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding in the park. Located just off US58 8 miles west of Volney VA.

Guy and Louise Hawks State Forest : The 127 acre State Forest rises on Lambsburg Mountain along Rt. 620 and ends adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Trails are planned for the future, but for now, visitors may walk through the woods from pulloff parking areas on Rt. 620.

Matthews State Forest : Located 1/2 mile west of the Galax city limits on US58, park in a small lot near the entrance and walk up the road to begin your tour. Two miles of trails wind through the forest in 3 different loops.

New River Trail State Park : 57 miles of continuous trail along a former railroad bed. Trail heads in Galax VA, Fries VA, and Pulaski VA. Trail parallels the New River for 39 miles and is open for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.

Power House Trail : This is a 3 mile loop within the Grayson County Recreation Park in Independence VA. The trail is open for hiking, biking, and bird watching.

Stewarts Creek WMA Birding and Wildlife Trail : Birding and wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy the 1087 acres contained within this area. Hiking trails afford an ideal setting for leisure nature lovers. Foot traffic only.

Virginia Creeper Trail : Trail runs along an abandoned railroad bed for 34 miles between Abingdon VA and the North Carolina state line near Whitetop VA. Spectacular mountain scenery is sure to please. Open for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
